AGARTALA, DHNS:
Continuing the brutal perpetration on non-Mizos in neighbouring Mizoram during the past fortnight infuriated Bangali inhabitants in both Tripura and Barak Valley of Southern Assam.
They demanded immediate intervention of the union government to contain the situation and save non-Mizos. Besides the Bengali people, tribal intellectuals in Tripura have also condemned the incidents.
Amra Bangali (We are Bengali), the political wing of the Ananda Marga in Tripura, carried out a protest rally on Wednesday in Agartala and Kanchanpur, a border town of Mizoram, to protest against the clashes between Mizos and non-Mizos. They presented a memorandum to the Governor of Mizoram demanding protection for the non-Mizo population in the state. Amra Bangali brought the matter to the notice of the Union Home Ministry separately and demanded its immediate intervention.
The murder of a young Mizo girl in the posh Aizwal area last month by two non-Mizo porters triggered a Mizo mob to attack innocent people in the state during the last fortnight and about 100 outsiders were assaulted in Mizoram territory. A large number of lorry drivers and traders of Silchar, about about 180 kilometres from Aizwal, were also assaulted by violent Mizos.
Many Mizoram-based non-Mizo businessmen have already left the state. The people of Silchar have imposed an economic blockade in protest against the violence on outsiders. Such steps have the potential to virtually starve Mizoram, which is totally dependent on neghibouring states for almost everything from foodstuff to construction materials.
Meanwhile, North Tripura stopped the supply of nuts, jackfruit and lichi to Mizoram as part of the [economic] blockade. Mizo people are largely dependent on Tripura for horticultural produce, in addition to cloth and fish which are transported to Mizoram through Tripura from Bangladesh.
Sources confirmed that vehicular traffic including passenger vehicles have been restricted, and the Barak Valley district administration has made arrangements along the border area to avert untoward incidents in Assam.
The Mizoram Displaced Bru Forum (an organisation of 30,000 refugees sheltered in North Tripura) has also criticized the Mizoram government and said the situation was aggravated due to the failure of the civil administration. Political parties and its leaders are responsible for the situation, they said.
Editor’s Note: One of the main reasons that Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar advocates the early formation of one world government is because that world government will protect the rights of minorities. Today, in every country, we see that the rights of minorities are trampled upon, that they live in fear and trepidation, and face constant persecution by the majority. The situation in Darfur, Sudan is a crying example of persecution of minorities. The non-Mizos in Mizoram described above is a second example. Along with the yeoman work of groups like the Amra Bangali Samaj, it becomes further critical to propagate the concept of one world government to the people.
