National News Service, Kolkata: The communists in India were never known for their patriotism. Their masters resided in Moscow or Beijing depending in which direction the wind was blowing. To them Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was a Quisling.
They rejoiced at the drubbing the Indian army took against the Chinese in 1961. To them the Quit India Movement in 1942 was just short of heresy. This list could go on ad infinitum.
Faust sold his soul to the devil for knowledge, and the communists in India sold their brains to Moscow and Beijing for a foreign trip there. When the World collapsed under their feet, the Soviet Union broke up and the Chinese embraced capitalism with a vengeance under the guise of communism. The communists were in disarray all over the world and two tribes remained one in West Bengal through scientific rigging, and an immature and corrupt opposition, and one in Kerala though, alternating with the Congress led front every five years.
The communists in West Bengal having left their brains behind in Moscow so when they came to power in 1979 set about destroying the economic base of the State, which was manufacturing, through irresponsible trade unionism. West Bengal was home to such industrial giants such as Jessop, Reyrolle Burn, Bridge and Roof, HDC, Bengal Enamel, Bengal Chemical, Bengal Potteries, Usha, Philips, the list was long and prestigious. Today all of these Companies are either sick, dead or have run away.
They fought against modernization, like computerizations as if it was the plague.
West Bengal became the capital of unemployment and slid all the way down to the bottom in the all the economic indexes. The communists also devised a wonderful methodology similar to a confession. Just say mistakes were committed and all is forgiven, in a confession you still had to repent for your sins and may have to do penance, not so in the communist system in West Bengal.
With so many plots of land becoming free because the industrial backbone had collapsed, the land sharks and promoters surfaced. As is normal in such cases the political mafia took over and became rich overnight. The Communists found if they allowed the opposition parties to operate in their fiefdoms, which was small, it acted as an anesthesia and they would not put up a serious challenge to their power and remain divided. Even then this boom could not last forever.
So they did what all good communists do, they said that all they had done for twenty years was wrong and they promoted a new mantra IT. The trouble was they were twenty years late and all the other States perhaps with the exception of Bihar were way ahead of them.
To the communists in West Bengal, IT became strangely synonymous with call centers. Even then trouble was brewing here. Bengal was the fist area to be colonized by the British, so normally the Bengalis were the first to be taught the English language, but again the Communists in their infinite wisdom virtually stopped teaching English in schools, with the net result being that West Bengal population could not compete in the all India examinations and the call centers went to Gurgaon, Pune etc. We now hear that English is being reintroduced.
The real question is what are call centers. Basically telephones lines are directly connected from foreign telephone exchanges and computers are connected either to a Company server directly or through the Internet. The technology involved is not mind boggling, but what comes with it is mind boggling because the communists are actively promoting it.
The people working in the call centers are assigned foreign names. Then they are taught to talk English like Americans. The next step in the ladder is thinking like the Americans, and finally they are sent abroad to complete the brain washing. Is this not what colonialism is about. You make clones out of the natives to suit you. The foreign Missionaries who accompanied the Colonialists convert you and make you change your name.
The other side of Colonialism is economic exploitation. The reason these jobs are being shipped overseas is low manpower costs. In any thought process it is exploitation. The people working in these call centers do not learn any skills. If Pavlov had lived long enough he could have probably taught his dogs to do these jobs, and with evolution probably monkeys will do these jobs in future.
The Communists if they could get their brains back from Moscow would be able to understand that China is what it is because of its manufacturing skills. They have become the suppliers to the world. They manufacture items from consumer to industrial products.
The production chain involves Research & Development, Production Management, Skilled, Semi Skilled and Unskilled Labor, and at the same time keeps your cultural heritage and your name. Along the whole chain skills are developed.
India and West Bengal have to develop manufacturing; it has to be the principal industry and services an ancillary. Services are the easy way out and not a lasting solution. Our Schools and Colleges have to make Engineers and who can go out and make products for the world to buy.
Somebody should check whether Marks and Engels are still in their graves or have fled seeing the sorry state of Communism.
