DEFFECTS OF THE TRADE UNION MOVEMENT

|

By Shrii P. R. Sarkar

The necessity of the trade union movement, to safeguard the interests of workers, cannot be denied. To guide this movement along the proper path, appropriate steps must be taken.

The timing and manner in which the judge, U.C. Banerjee, disclosed the interim findings of his inquiry into the burning of the train at Godhra have done grave harm to the cause of truth. Playing politics with truth can be as insidious as the subversion by lies. Unwittingly perhaps, Banerjee has ensured that truth will remain hostage to politics. The tragedy that was Godhra was incalculably compounded by what can only be described as a state-supported pogrom against minorities. Now it appears that we are determined to ensure that the aftermath of the tragedy is a farce.

PROBLEMS OF THE DAY [9]

By Shrii P. R. Sarkar

In fact, the use of advanced scientific technology means rapid mechanization. Conservative people vociferously criticize this mechanization. Actually, such mechanization within a capitalistic structure inevitably brings more misery, in the form of unemployment, to the common people. That is why conservative people oppose it.

In the field of industry, the necessity of both small-scale and large-scale industries will have to be accepted. For example, the requisite amount of yarn needed to meet the demand for cloth in a self- sufficient unit may be produced by many big yarn mills. Here the production of yarn can be treated as a large-scale industry, and with the help of this industry, numerous small-scale industries will prosper.

ARE WE ALL BRAINLESS IDIOTS?

|
The train which was set alight

National News Service (Kolkata – India), 28th January, 2005: The OUTLOOK magazine dated the 31st January 2005 has a quotation from retired Justice U. C. Banerjee stating “I’m not a politician; I don't know when the polls are due. I'm not keen on knowing either.” It can then be presumed that this person, for want of a better word, can look at a train compartment and blithely claim that there was no sabotage and that the fire was accidental.

PROBLEMS OF THE DAY [7]

Shrii P. R. Sarkar

We cannot neglect even a single living being in this creation, nor can we ignore the smallest part of the universe. So, as far as possible, the industrial system should be organized according to the principle of decentralization.

Another excellent example of vested interest is the caste system! Once a section of people established its supremacy over others through the power of superior knowledge and intellect. Even today the descendants of that section of people want their social supremacy and opportunities for exploitation to continue unchallenged. (.............. to be continued)

PROBLEMS OF THE DAY [5]

|

By Shrii P. R. Sarkar

Even if extreme steps, such as threats and circumstantial pressure, are taken, can it be said that the nature of those with vested interests is going to be reformed? Rather, they will always search for suitable opportunities to launch a counter-revolution.

To protect the common people from the clutches of exploitation, as an initial measure we will have to create circumstantial pressure, but to reform the character of these ailing people, long-term arrangements will also have to be made for their psychic and spiritual education. Human society is ready to wait indefinitely to reform their character by psychic and spiritual methods, because by then their fangs will have been broken, and by creating circumstantial pressure, their capacity for exploitation will have been snatched away. PROBLEMS OF THE DAY [4]

|

By Shrii P. R. Sarkar

The ambition to become rich by exploiting others is a type of psychic disease. In fact, if the infinite longing of the human mind does not find the proper path leading to psychic and spiritual fulfilment, it becomes engaged in accumulating excessive physical wealth by depriving others.

GLOBAL WARMING AND HYPOCRISY

|

National News Service, Kolkata: The global warming and the level of hypocrisy seem to have a direct correlation. As the number of cyclones, tsunamis, and earthquakes and other natural or man made calamities increase the level of hypocrisy among the world leaders has increased.

PROBLEMS OF THE DAY [3]

|

By Shrii P. R. Sarkar

I cannot support the attitude of those who denounce capitalism at every opportunity, because this allows capitalists to become alert and invent more scientific and devious ways to exploit the people. Those who lack a constructive ideology will never be capable of destroying capitalism, even if they speak sweet words, use threats, or create circumstantial pressure. (......to be continued)

AMURT Relief at Cuddalore, Tamilnadu, India

PNA, 14 January 2005: It is well known to all by now of the colossal loss of human life and properties due to the Tsunami tragedy in which massive ocean waves triggered by an undersea earthquake on the fateful Sunday, December 26, 2004. The ocean waves swept away in a short span of 30 minutes more than two hundred thousands of lives and several hundreds are still missing. Thousands of children lost their parents, parents lost their dear children and the surviving lost their everything. Never in the past, a calamity of this magnitude has taken place nor the humanity has ever seen the nature’s ferocious fury at its zenith.

PROBLEMS OF THE DAY [2]

|

By Shrii P. R. Sarkar

Considering the collective interests of all living beings, it is essential that capitalism be eradicated. But, what should be the proper method to achieve this end? It cannot be denied that violence gives rise to violence. Then again, nothing can ensure that the application of force without violence, with the intention of rectific- ation, will necessarily bring good results. So what should be done under such circumstances?

“There are large, deep cracks along the seabed, which are already making contact with the fire within the earth. This is happening precisely because of the nuclear tests that the scientists and the powers (that believe they are powers) are conducting. They do not measure the consequences of the atrocities they have committed and continue committing against the planet and against humanity.”

“As the cracks form, tidal waves, earthquakes and horrifying occurrences on the land and water will take place. Every single coastal will swept way. Our planet will begin sinking into the ocean because the Earth’s axis already shifted due to the tests that are being conducted.”

“The Earth’s axis is already out of place and through tremors, earthquakes and tidal waves. It will become loose and then the sinking will come. Do not believe, dear reader, that the planet will sink suddenly. This is a long, slow, distressing and painful process….”

NASA Details How Indian Ocean Quake Affects Earth Rotation

|

Seismic event decreased length of day, changed planet's shape

11 January 2005

NASA scientists using data from the Indian Ocean earthquake have calculated that it affected Earth's rotation, decreased the length of day, slightly changed the planet's shape and shifted the North Pole by centimeters. According to a January 10 NASA press release, all earthquakes have some affect on Earth's rotation, but the December 26, 2004, earthquake that created the huge tsunami was so powerful that it changed Earth's rotation.

IDEAL SYSTEM OF INHERITANCE

|

By Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtijii

The system of inheritance should ordinarily be as follows:

(1) Sons and daughters will inherit in equal shares the movable and/or immovable property of their parents. The daughter will enjoy the immovable property during her lifetime, but will not have the right to transfer it to others. The property will revert to her father's family after her death.

Parama Purus'a [Supreme Consciousness] is my Father, Parama' Prakrti [Supreme Operative Principle] is my Mother, and the universe is my homeland. We are all citizens of this universe. The universe is the thought projection of the Macrocosmic Mind, and it is in the extroversial and introversial phases of the Cosmic imaginative flow that the creation, preservation and destruction of all entities continues.

Environmental Impact: How Penang fishermen were saved

|

GEORGE TOWN, JAN 7:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

For over a decade, inshore fishermen in Penang fought to preserve the mangrove swamps near their villages.

On Dec 26, they received the ultimate payback for their perseverance - the swamps acted as a buffer against the tsunami and saved some of them from death and prevented further destruction to their homes.

To Give One's All

|

"...one who is dedicated to an ideal must be prepared to gladly and eagerly give up one's all - even one's life - for the collective interest. Even in a house where food is not abundant, you should keep something for the reisdents of the house to appease their hunger, and donate the rest to the needy. In this case, thinking of the resisdents' necessities is not narrowness or meannesss, because the reservataion of life is certainly very important, though not the ultimate aim. When one is fighting for an ideal, however, to accept defeat means to plunge in severe gloom. Where there is not the least possibility to remove the gloom, one will have to sacrifice everything to uphold one's ideal. You should always be ready like an armed soldier to meet such exigencies."

ExxonMobil, Aceh and the Tsunami

|

January 4th, 2005

ExxonMobil has contributed $5 million to the Tsunami relief efforts. In Aceh, the company operates one of the largest gas fields in the world and they're being sued for gross human rights violations. We speak with a lawyer who has just returned from Indonesia where he was interviewing witnesses against ExxonMobil from Aceh. [includes rush transcript] Today, as the United Nations puts the confirmed death toll from the Asian Tsunami at more than 150,000, we are going to continue our special coverage of the devestation in the hardest hit area, the Aceh region of Indonesia where the death toll is expected soon to rise above 100,000. In a few moments we are going to be joined by two Acehnese activists who were out in front of the Indonesian Mission to the UN protesting yesterday against the Indonesian military regime. But first, we turn to a story that has gotten almost no attention and that is the story of the oil giant Exxon-Mobil, a corporation that has a massive investment in Aceh. According to some estimates, ExxonMobil has extracted some $40 billion from its operations in Aceh, Indonesia.

Food Shortages Hit Iraqis

|

By Khaled Yacoub Oweis

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq is suffering a shortage of state-supplied wheat, sugar and rice because of logistics and security problems, officials and traders say. Most Iraqis, already in the grip of a fuel and electricity crisis, have depended on monthly rations since the Saddam Hussein era under a system meant to lessen the crushing impact of the 1990-2003 sanctions that helped destroy the economy.

Chile: Justice Gets Closer

|

PROUT Editor's note: Will the wheels of justice also turn for Mr. George Bush and will he also one day be tried for his egregious crimes against humanity - the people of Iraq, Afghanistan, the depleted-uranium-contaminated US soldiers - he also needs to face the courts of international law!!

By upholding the ruling made by Judge Guzman and the decision of the Santiago Courts of Appeal on the Pinochet case, the Chilean Supreme Court has today made a decisive step towards justice, said Amnesty International.

FIGHT BETWEEN VIRTUE AND VICE

|

“This fight between virtue and vice, is continuing and will continue forever. There cannot be any peaceful co-existence between good and bad, virtue and vice. One will have to go away, one will have to be expelled by the other. So you are all spiritual aspirants; you must remember that yours is a never-ending fight against all sorts of meanness, all sorts of crudeness, all sorts of depraving elements. You must not forget this fact.”

Men Prefer Subordinate Women to Equals

|

PROUT Editor's note: In fact, these preferences are not rooted in evolution. Rather, that would be patriarchic propaganda dished out by the so-called researchers. Millions of years ago when human beings first originated on this earth, a matriarchal and matrilineal society was in place. It was only after many millenia had passed that men gradually subordinated women to their present degraded position. Brown and Lewis need to study the history of human civilization before distributing such flippant assumptions regarding results of their survey. It is only highly insecure men who feel the need to police their spouses and constantly check to see whether their spouses are maintaining fidelity to their husbands or not. That is the flaw, the fatal defect, in those men - and the study indicates that the majority of men suffer from this defect - it is not the fault of any woman. The fact that in this so-called study women were not particular as to a man's status in relationship to his desirability as a partner, it would be better if she ascertained carefully before marriage whether he is a man who prefers a coordinated relationship with his spouse or a subordinated one. If he opts for a subordinated one, then the woman should drop him like a ton of bricks!

Reuters - December 30, 2004

NEW YORK - Men would rather marry their female assistants than equal-ranking women or their supervisors, according to social psychologists. The results are based on a study of men's ratings of imaginary women with different job titles, during which they judged them according to their appeal as a one-night stand, friend, or long-term partner.

Aftermath of the Earthquake: Shorter Days

|

Wgnweather Blog
December 27, 2004

Incredibly, the magnitude 9.0 earthquake that struck off Sumatra on Sunday
morning caused a vertical displacement of so much material that the rotation
period of the Earth has been permanently altered. By a tiny but measurable
amount, the Earth is now rotating more quickly on its axis, and the 24-hour
day is now one ten-thousandth second shorter.

12/28/04 -- from the Swedish paper Expressen.

Just minutes after the earthquake in the Indian Ocean on Sunday morning, Thailand’s foremost meteorological experts were sitting together in a crisis meeting. But they decided not to warn about the tsunami “out of courtesy to the tourist industry,” writes the Thailand daily newspaper The Nation.

THE WAVES

|

National News Service, Kolkata: The response of the Government of India to the waves that have caused such a great tragedy in Asia reminds one of a Circus.

As soon as the waves hit India the Government went into an huddle. Ministers were running helter skelter. Sonia Gandhi in Andaman Nicobar Islands, Mani Shankar Aiyer in Tamil Nadu, and the Prime Minister all over the place. This is the same way the clowns run around in a circus ring.
