National News Service, Kolkata, 28/02/2005: In the recently held Assembly election in the three States of Bihar, Jharkand and Haryana, were concluded yesterday 27/02/2005 with the declaration of the results.

In Haryana the Congrees has swept the elections with more than two thirds majority. This victory has bought with it a headache for the Congress President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, as all the potential Chief Ministerial candidates including Mr. Bhajan Lal. Mr Virender Singh, Mr. Ranbir Singh Suryawala and Kumari Sailyaja have done well. The final position in the State of haryana is:

Congress: 67
National Lok Dal: 9
Bhratiya Janata Party: 2
Independent & others: 12

In Bihar the 15 years of uninterrupted rule by the Lalu Prosad jadav led RJD has suffered setbacks. It has lost 40 seats in comparison to the last assembly election. The BJP led NDA has not been able to cash in on this, they only bagged 93 seats and the main beneficiary is the Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Jana Sakhti. Both the Congress and the Left Front have suffered serious setbacks. Also that the LJP is not a recognised political party.

The RJD has emerged as the single largest party, but it is expected that serious horse trading will take place before a new Government can be formed in Bihar. Smt. Rabri Devi handed over her resignation to the Governor Sri Buta Singh in Patna Raj bhavan today and the Governor requested her to continue as caretaker Chief minister till further notice. The final position in Bihar is:

RJD: 75
Congress: 10
LJP: 28
NDA: 93
CPI(M): 1
Others: 36

In Jharkand Sibu Soren's JMM did perform to expectations. Both his sons Durga and Hemant lost in Santhal parganas, and the amin beneficiary was JMM rebel leader Mr. Stephen Marandi. This election has seen a clear split between the Hindus and Christian tribal people and they are no longer united. The NDA led by the BJP has done better than expected after the last Lok Sabha debacle. The Chief Minister Mr. Arjum Munda, former Union Minister in NDA led cabinet Mr. Karya Munda, Mr Suraj Rai and several top BJP leaders have won. In Jharkand also the Communist drew badly and drew a blank. Only the Forward Bloc for the first time have won two seats. The CPI(ML) have captured one seat. The Congress has also perdformed badly. The position in the Jharkand Assembly will be as follows:

NDA: 36
Congress: 9
JMM: 17
RJD: 7
Forward Bloc: 2
CPI(ML): 1
Rebel BJP: 3
Others: 6
