National News Service, Kolkata, 13/03/2005: The tragi-comedy of Jharkand Government formation continues unabated. Soren and Balmuchu have been succeded by Munda and Munda. All the five independent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) have been sworn in as Ministers along with the Chief Minister.
The sole National Congress Party (NCP) member has also joined the NDA Government in Jharkand, the MLA oblivious to the fact that that his boss Sharad Pawar is the Union Agriculture Minister in the UPA Government.
The next urgent task of the newly formed ministry was to withdraw the criminal case against one of the Independent M LA's. In the case of Prostitutes accepting gratification they are liable to be arrested under the immoral traffic act, only god knows why this law should not apply to MLAs, it may be argued that the former at least provide some service.
Meanwhile the comedy in New Delhi grows murkier. The BJP roared that they would bring a no confidence motion against the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for his comments about the Supreme Court order on Jharkand. The moment the BJP got the Jharkand pie, they have started squeaking like mice and have lost their apetite for a fight.
In another corner an ex Chief Minister of West Bengal, some say bordering on gerontological ailments continued his rant against the Supreme Court judgement. The question is anybody listening.
If the politicians have the courage of their convictions, let them amend the constitution, and clearly define the powers of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court during Mrs. Indira Ghandis time gave them this unfettered power.
The problem is that everybody in power is happy with the current situation, and the general population to busy trying to survive to care anymore.
As the song goes the beat goes on.

"Human beings have still not been able to form a human society, and have still not learned to move with the spirit of a pilgrim. Although many small groups, motivated by self-interest, work together in particular situations, not even a small fraction of their work is done with a broader social motive. By strict definition, shall we have to declare that each small family unit is a society in itself? If going ahead in mutual adjustment only out of narrow self-interest or momentary self-seeking is called society, then in such a society, no provision can be made for the disabled, the diseased or the helpless, because in most cases nobody can benefit from them in any way... in that case there always remains the possibility of some people getting isolated from the collective. All human beings must attach themselves to others by the common bond of love and march forward hand in hand; then only will I proclaim it a society." |
