DECENTRALISATION OF ECONOMIC POWER

By Ac. Krtashivananda Avt.

People have some fundamental rights to create sustainable communities and to control their own resources, economies, and means of livelihood. These rights in turn influenced by their right to choose what cultural values they will embrace. A globalised economy in its present form denies these rights by transferring power to make the relevant choices to global corporations and financial institutions. It does not serve the human interest.

The theories of both capitalism and communism accept the aphorism, “He who control the gold rules”. Communist theory proposed workers control of means of production but never cared to implement it. Adam Smith implicitly made the same assumption in the vision of an ideal market economy comprising small farmers and artisans – a circumstance in which owner, manager, and worker supposed to be the same. But the capitalism persistently transfers property rights to economic oligarchies and financial institutions that are largely unaccountable even to their owners. Whereas communism vested property rights in a distant state and denied the people any means of holding the state accountable for its exercise of those rights............Read More

By Brajaraj (People’s News Service)

The Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) provide high-quality educational programming across the United States to people of all ages, but it seems that they can’t put two and two together themselves when it comes to the global phenomenon of Teletubbies.

Teletubbies is a morning television program carried by PBS featuring four roundish, cuddly little creatures that aims to educate very small children two years and younger. In 1999 it was the subject of passing comments and more in-depth looks in several publications, including People, Time, The Washington Post, Christian minister Rev. Jerry Falwell’s National Liberty Journal, and the Chicago Tribune. Tribune columnist Eric Zorn quoted several gay writers who were convinced that Tinky Winky, one of the characters, is gay...........Read more

Prayer Meeting to pay homage to the 17 Monks and Nuns who were brutally killed by the anti-social elements of Communist Party (Marxists) of West Bengal-India on 30th April 1982 in broad daylight in Kolkata

People’s News Agency, Kolkata, 1 May 2005: The 30th April silent procession from Deshapriya Park to Bijan Setu (the bridge where the brutal incident happened) this year was most impressive. More than 5000 margiis coming from Orissa, Jharkhand, Assam, Tripura, Bengal and Bhutan participated in this unique rally. Led by Whole Timer (WTs)Workers of Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha, the rally was more than 2 KM long. The Silent March started exactly at 3.00 p.m. and arrived at Bijan Setu around 4.00 p.m. As the rally was to pay homage, there was no slogan shouting. Instead the mounted speakers on 6 vehicles accompanying the rally were used to narrate the story of 30th April 1982. 3 of the loud speakers were telling the same story through songs composed by Ac. Nityasatyananda Avt. (a senior monk of Ananda Marga) and sang by a group of singers. The onlookers were very curious and were asking for leaflets themselves. Now, it is 23 years and most of the people belong to generations who had never heard of such a ghastly crime.
