Before any storm there is always calmness. So called confidence building measures with Pakistan and ceasefire along the Line of Control for almost last two years in Jammu & Kashmir may not be a real situation with India and Pakistan. It appears that the situation could be having a “Hallow Effects”.
Any form of Pakistan Government may it be Civilian or Army will always consider the Kashmir issue as key issue of normalization of relationship with India.
Relation between Pakistan & India further deteriorated after 1971 Indo-Pak War which resulted in disintegration of Pakistan and creation of sovereign independent state of Bangladesh. After this war, Pakistan Govt. by creating an instable situation in India by Khalistan movement wanted to annex Jammu & Kashmir by proxi war. To achieve their design Pakistan Govt. wanted help of Sikh leaders staying abroad mainly in UK and Canada.
Amongst all European Countries UK is the most tolerant country which allows different religions and culture to practice their own traditions e.g. an Islamic state is permitted to function in the Northern Areas of UK, similarly the state allowed Sikh and other communities to function in a big way in the area of South Hall of London. It is in UK, Osama Bin Laden had given birth to his fundamental Islamic movements.
Mr. Jagjit Singh Chauhan and (Late) Mr. J. S. Bhindranwal started their concept of Khalistan movement which was backed by Pakistan’s Inter Service Intelligence (ISI). This resulted in creation of Sikh Militant Outfit like Babbar Khalsa and Khalistan Liberation Front etc. in 1983 – 84.
Entire nation witnessed the tragic, an ill-effect of such movements specially in Punjab which resulted in storming of Golden Temple by the Indian Army and thereafter assassination of then Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. After retirement, Gen. A. S. Baidya, the Chief of the Army Staff of Indian Army during Operation Blue Star (storming of Golden Temple by Indian Army) was also assassinated by the Sikh Militants.
Mr. K. P. S. Gill, the then Head of Punjab Police was entrusted with restoring Law and Order situation in Punjab which he had done with iron fist.
After two decades when UPA Govt. came into power, suddenly we have started seeing such movement of Sikh extremism re-surfacing in our country. The Nation witnessed two cinema halls blasts and killing of innocent people when a movie was screened in Delhi. The organization behind the blast was Babbar Khalsa. There had been a sudden movement to take revenge against the individuals who alleged to have been involved in anti-Sikh riots after the assassination of Mrs. Indira Gandhi. Off late the intelligence Agencies reported that large funding is pouring in from all over the world to such militant organizations in UK. It has also been reported that Pakistan’s ISI is helping this fund to be siphoned to their establishments in Pakistan. As part of confidence building measure we [India] have already started a bus service from Amritsar to Lahore and another bus service is likely to be started from Atari to Nankana Saheb in Pakistan, the holiest place of Sikh religion. In the mean time Pakistan to win over Sikh sentiment, first time enrolled a Pakistani Sikh Gentleman in their Army as an Officer.
Intelligence agencies further reported that there is an alignment of various militant outfit with a view to create destabilization in some of the countries including India.
It appears Pakistan is again trying to play psychological Warfare with view play with Sikh sentiment in the West and through Bangladesh, Bengali sentiment to the East.
It must be understood, especially by Sikh & Bengali community, that during 1947 division of our country it is the Sikh and the Bengalis who had suffered most. We must also understand that this is the first time Govt. of India has three eminent Sikhs at the helm of our Govt. Let us not be sentimental fools and play in the hands of Pakistan. It must be remembered, as long as Pakistan exists as an Islamic Country and they keep the Kashmir issue alive based on religion only, there can never be a permanent solution for peace & normalization of relation with Pakistan.
