The second phase of polling in West Bengal was carried out today 22/04/06 in the constituencies in Howrah, Hooghly, East Mednipore and Nadia under the strict supervision of the Election Commission of India to prevent the widespread rigging that usually took place in West Bengal in earlier polls, mainly orchestrated by the ruling CPI(M) party.

The booths were manned by Central Police force and the State Police was reduced to patrolling on the fringes. By 2 P.M. about 40% of the votes were cast.
