As all of about 2,000 candles were lit, the area around the Bali monument in Kuta gradually transformed into a sea of waving light.

"It is as if we are trying to push away the darkness that has engulfed our hearts these few years. For me, it is a symbolic act of substituting the curse of darkness, be it in the form of pain, anger or hatred, with the grace of light in the form of love, forgiveness and compassion," Balinese poet Cokorda Sawitri said.

PROUT Editor's note: In the past communist regimes exploited differently than capitalist regimes. However, China, which is now controlled by multinational corporations, just like the capitalist west, is behaving in the same repressive manner as the Bush government. While the Bush government just a few days ago confiscated the servers of an independent news organization called www.indymedia.org, similarly we learn that the Chinese communist government has done the exact same. They are closing down sites that give any mention of human rights abuses in China and they have thrown 42 journalists in prison. The fundamentalists, the communists and the capitalists have fused into one entity, so by fighting one, we are fighting all, and this is what we have to do because the safety, security and freedom of all human beings depends upon destroying those opposed to the First Amendment of the US Constitution which states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." This Amendment involves is a part of international law and must be safeguarded in all countries, not just the US.

NEW DELHI, Sept 29 (OneWorld) - International press freedom organization Reporters sans Frontieres (RSF) has urged the European Union (EU) to condemn China's latest crackdown on independent websites and publications while holding a dialogue on human rights with the EU, even as a report by media freedom group, Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) says 42 journalists are currently imprisoned in China, with insurance companies in the country listing journalism as the third most dangerous profession in the country.

Reuters, the financial news service, will today officially unveil an office in south India that will see 20 journalists cover 2,000 small to medium-sized American companies listed on the New York stock exchange.
