Prayer Meeting to pay homage to the 17 Monks and Nuns who were brutally killed by the anti-social elements of Communist Party (Marxists) of West Bengal-India on 30th April 1982 in broad daylight in Kolkata

People’s News Agency, Kolkata, 1 May 2005: The 30th April silent procession from Deshapriya Park to Bijan Setu (the bridge where the brutal incident happened) this year was most impressive. More than 5000 margiis coming from Orissa, Jharkhand, Assam, Tripura, Bengal and Bhutan participated in this unique rally. Led by Whole Timer (WTs)Workers of Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha, the rally was more than 2 KM long. The Silent March started exactly at 3.00 p.m. and arrived at Bijan Setu around 4.00 p.m. As the rally was to pay homage, there was no slogan shouting. Instead the mounted speakers on 6 vehicles accompanying the rally were used to narrate the story of 30th April 1982. 3 of the loud speakers were telling the same story through songs composed by Ac. Nityasatyananda Avt. (a senior monk of Ananda Marga) and sang by a group of singers. The onlookers were very curious and were asking for leaflets themselves. Now, it is 23 years and most of the people belong to generations who had never heard of such a ghastly crime.
